The firm’s history
Nikki Setzler, Danny Scott, and Richard Chewning founded Setzler, Chewning & Scott in 1977. The three attorneys were all sole practitioners who worked closely as respected colleagues before merging their practices.
Mr. Setzler and Mr. Scott renamed the firm Setzler & Scott, P.A., when Mr. Chewning was elected by the South Carolina General Assembly to serve as a family court judge in 1996.
Joe Vasquez became an associate in 1993 and a partner in 2000. In 2001, Michelle Dickerson began as an associate lawyer and became partner in 2006.
Originally located on Platt Springs Road, the office moved to 1708 Augusta Road in 1980. The firm completed construction of new offices at 1708 Augusta Road in 2003. Setzler & Scott, P.A., provides clients with helpful driving directions to the firm.

Personal interaction is a large part of the firm’s commitment to clients. Each of our attorneys has spent his or her adult life in South Carolina. Each is active in the local community. Some of them work with the Chambers of Commerce, Economic Development Corporations, Rotary Club, Civitans, and YMCA. Mr. Setzler has served continuously in the South Carolina Senate since November of 1976.
